Several weeks ago, I was visiting my sister in Central CA and found out that her and her husband were hosting 2 boys from Germany. I thought to myself, “Wow, what are they doing here, and how did they link up with my sister?” When I finally get there and meet them, I find out that they (Jan and Chris) had just finished their army service and had some time before college started. So they decided to bike across the US. No, not on motorcycles, but on bikes!

Chris and Jan
Click to
So they started their trip on April 15th, landing in Miami, not knowing anyone. Their plan was to stay at campgrounds along the way, but when they arrived to the first one, they were shocked at how expensive it was. So they crossed the street to a truck stop, and tried to plan an alternative. A trucker asked if they needed help, and after explaining their situation, he offered them his cab because he didn’t need it for that night. The next day they came across a pastor who set them up for their next 5 nights, and from then on, each person they stayed with, connected them to someone at each one of their stops for them to stay with!

I can’t list every city they stopped in, but here are the states they traveled through:
Florida—>Alabama—>Mississippi—>Arkansas—>Texas—>New Mexico—>Arizona—>California and flying back to Germany from San Francisco, CA.

I asked them to give me one of their best/strangest parts of the trip thus far, and this is what they had to say:
I think one of our strangest experiences was definitely on the 101. Where the police stopped us. with the hand at the gun and that we should go away from our cycles. The problem was that we were on this part of the 101 (near to Thousand Oaks) prohibited, but we ignored the sign at first because on the Interstate 40 it was also no problem. At the end the officers gave us a guard down from the 101 over the next exit. They stopped the whole exit t lead us down. I think this was a nice picture we two in front of the two police cars and all the traffic behind them. But the officers were really nice people, they gave us no ticket or any other fine. In the opposite way they gave us directions how we were able to arrive Thousand Oaks without using the 101. Other really cool adventures were as we were in the desert of Arizona for shooting or with Josh Surfing…but all in all its nearly impossible to count all the fantastic memories and to tell them. Because such amazing things like these happened all over the States and I think the best memories are all the people which we met on this journey…..

Their other stories are amazing and these are some of the nicest guys I’ve met. They also told us to be sure and look them up if we’re ever in Germany! I hope we will be able to one day.

I believe they made good time so they were able to spend extra days in cities they really loved. I think their plane back to Germany leaves this Thursday. Jan and Chris, it was a pleasure meeting you and good luck in all your future endeavors. I hope we will be able to cross paths again.

I just got this in the mail! I feel way better about my adventures on my cycle around Sea-town now! Bern is making some sweet helmets that don’t exactly look like traditional cycle helmets, they actually have this hip flare to em. Bern is also creating accessories around their helmets ex. front visor for the sun, ear protectors for the cold elements, and zip technology that allows you to get the protection pads as conformed to your head as possible. There are some sweet colors available as well that separates from a lot of other helmets out there. Kids ride safe and look swell at the same time! Check out more of Bern HERE
