Noah Gundersen Show Recap

Congrats to Kyle Jones for winning the tickets to Noah’s show at the Columbia City Theater. Here’s a little recap from Kyle:

A Family Ordeal
Noah Gundersen’s CD release at Columbia City Theater was a family engagement and the perfect thing to get away from the city grind during Seafair festivities. Sister Abby was on stage playing in both the opening acts as well as with Noah for the whole show. The second opener Le Wrens is comprised on three Gundersen’s including Elizabeth, Jonathan, and Abby, with close friends Kale Lotton and Michael Porter rounding out the band. There twist of folk and country, singer song writer style perfectly prepped the crown for Noah’s set. Le Wrens, although young, played a very polished set with all original music, except for a cover of Johnny Cash’s song, Folsom Prison Blues which really got the crowd going. On to Noah….the twenty two year old never ceases to amazing me. Him and Abby accompanied by his first opener, Zach Fleury, who played percussion throughout the first half of Noah’s set, wowed the crowd with beautiful stories, acoustic awesomeness, and vocals beg you to picture his songs as he sung them. Its hard to pin point the feeling you get when you hear him play but its like you can actually hear what his soul is saying. It was definitively a night to remember and a reason to look forward to the winter when Noah will be releasing a full length album. Thanks to Le Grand Cru for hooking me up with tickets and a free signed CD. And if you haven’t heard Noah Gundersen please check out his bandcamp and facebook pages, listen to his music and catch his next show, you will not regret it.

Kina Grannis – The One You Say Goodnight To

If you don’t remember, Kina Grannis was the one to win that Doritos Superbowl Contest a few years back. Well, she’s dropped a video, and it was even featured on MTV.com! What makes it even more exciting is that our good friend Keith Tutt (who also appears on our Japan Compilation) plays with Kina, and is in the video! Congrats guys!

Hand Me Ups

You know how you sometimes come across something just knowing that it’s going to take off? HandMeUps.org is one of those things. Founder Kurt Narmore has connected with some huge clothing brands and set up a system that “obtains brand new, unused, unworn clothing from radical brands who share a philanthropic interest” in order to give underprivileged kids some fresh gear. He’s also partnered up with the Boys & Girls Club of America and will be doing a 5 city summer tour, bringing some really great guests along for some motivational speaking.

Get used to seeing this logo. They are about to do some big things. And keep an eye out for our next CRU issue for an interview with Mr. Narmore himself.

Their site is brand new, so check it out for more info at www.handmeups.org

You can also follow Hand Me Ups on Facebook and Twitter

FIRE ON THE VINE

Photo by our good friend Kaylyn

I’ve been going to Bryan John Appleby shows since I saw him on the Campfire OK‘s album release bill in February. Bryan delivers on his own and doesn’t lose a thing when he’s joined by his band. Seatown has been anticipating a full length for some time now and the good news is that his Kickstarter is ALMOST funded. We really enjoy talking about artists we like, doing collabs with them, and putting the biggest spotlight on them that we can muster. We can’t wait to get our Vinyl / Handmade Poster / Personal Mix from our pledge. Please watch his short kickstarter video below and join us in helping Bryan succeed!

CRU Mag

When we came up with the Japan Compilation we thought we should also put out an online magazine companion that showcases the artists even more. This is the first of many to come, so watch for our future issues as we plan to highlight different creatives and go more in depth with them. Thanks for all the support from everyone, and a big thanks to Brian Lambert (newest member to the design team) for designing over half of this issue.

So relax, check it out in full screen, and leave a comment telling us what you think! Welcome to the CRU.

The Globes

Through friends, I’ve gotten to meet The Globes, and have even been fortunate enough to have shared a few meals with them. These guys are not only extremely talented, but just a fun group to be around. The Globes was the first local Northwest band my friend Ben Blood introduced me to. I still remember going to their smaller shows and Ben saying, “they should be signed” 2 years ago. This video is stunning in every way. Great job fellas, and keep up the amazing work.
