BRO-AM

This past Saturday Le Grand Cru participated in its first public event. Bro-Am has been going for 6 yrs strong and has partnered with several groups to be active in reaching the needs of homeless youth through an organization called StandUp For Kids. What an incredible event for us to be involved in.

Switchfoot headlined a great line up that included OK GO, The Almost, Young The Giant, and others. There was also a surf competition which included surfers Rob Machado, Tom Curren, and Timmy Curran, and members of Switchfoot. I got a wicked burn, my Seattle skin isn’t used to the Cali sun!

We met amazing people who came to hang &  people who were from other brands/outreaches. It was awesome seeing this many people come together to make a difference in this community.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hi and to getting to know what Le Grand Cru is all about. We had some incredible help throughout the day, from the early morning setup, helping out at the table, passing out our flyer/stickers, and take down. Thanks for being part of our CRU, couldn’t have done it without ya’ll! We’ll definitely be back next year!

Switchfoot/Bro-Am

We are SO excited!!! For the last 5 years, Switchfoot has been putting together an event called Bro-Am. This year is no different except that we are going to be a part of it! The all day event consists of a surf contest, vendor booths, a Switchfoot concert and about 5000-6000 people coming out to support and have a great time. This event is to raise money for an organization called StandUp For Kids which is a national nonprofit volunteer outreach organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk, homeless, and street kids.

The event will be held on June 26, 2010 on the Moonlight Beach of Encinitas, CA.
So please come out and support, and stop by our booth to say “hi”!

Hope For Haiti Benefit

Wow, what an experience. This was our very first benefit we’ve been a part of, and it was such an honor. The community of San Luis Obispo, CA came out in full force! So many people brought handcrafted goods, food, and other cool things to donate the proceeds to the people of Haiti. We met some great people, heard some sweet tunes, and ate some good food! Haiti

By now, most of us have seen and heard the tragedy that has happened to the people of Haiti. I believe that any contribution, no matter how big or small, is necessary. In the last few weeks, there have been some close friends pulling together to help in any way. I feel that it is our duty to try and help in any way possible. This Friday, there will be a music and art benefit in San Luis Obispo that we will try to be a part of. We will have shirts shipped there so that whatever we sell, we can donate the proceeds to the people of Haiti.

Click here for more info on the above benefit.

If any of you are putting together similar things in different cities, please email us at questions@legrandcru.us and we will post your poster or links to whatever you may be doing to help. All the info we get, we will keep adding to this post. So keep checking back!

Even this little boy was able to raise more than $150,000 to donate! Amazing!

If you’re in San Francisco, CA this Saturday!

TITUS KAPHAR

george_george_george

Titus just had some of his work at the SAM and I hope if you are from Seatown that you were able to stop by to see his work in person. Titus takes old American/European portraits, copies them detail for detail and then proceeds to cut them out of the canvas to extract new meaning on race, history, & social issues. Great work Titus! See more of his works HERE

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that feeds over 4000 people (and counting!) on a weekly basis. Everything is donated and all the work time is volunteered. Le Grand Cru put a small group together to help put together bags of food to be given out at their distribution center. I think we completed almost 600 bags! There are many other areas with Helping Hands that could use volunteers, and we hope to get experience all of them. To find out a little bit more about Helping Hands, click here.

Latest Works

I love doing poster design and i’ve had the pleasure of doing some lately.

First is the official tour poster for Garage Voice, Noah & Abby Gundersen, and Tom Rorem. Ben Blood took the snap in the tour poster at one of my favorite Sea-town joints Bauhaus. The vision of the poster was to emmulate Wes Andersen in character and composition. I found Futura was the font he uses on all his films and had to add it in a Life Aquatic kinda way. Voila!

Second is a poster for a folk rock night at the Q Cafe including some great tunes from some northwest kids. Our good friend Tony Kevin asked me to do a poster for it so i started thinking of old hatch print techniques and type then proceeded to use 2 colors in case there was a budget for them to be screen printed. I really hope they get screened, t’would be d’lish.

Third is me playin’ around with a northwest theme to attach to the Garage Voice name, mountains, the purple gloom of rainy clouds, the compass needle pointing to the northwest, and trees making the initials for GV. I should have thrown in a Subaru, Birkenstocks, anything REI, and a Trader Joe’s bag!
